The Baden-Powell Scouts' Association

Traditional Scouting for the 21st Century!

Scouting is a value-for-money way of providing a range of exciting and challenging activities for your Child. The costs involved are outlined below. If you feel you may have trouble taking part in any part of Scouting for financial reasons, please speak to the Scout Master in charge as some assistance may be available.

‘Uniform'

During you're his / her first couple of meetings, whilst your child is trying out Scouting, he/ she will not require uniform. After this time you will decide whether your child would like to join in the fun and a decision will be made for your child to start wearing the required section uniform.

To get an idea of the cost of these items please consult with the Leader of the section your child is attending. It may be possible to buy second hand clothing - please ask your child's Leader about this for advice.

‘Subscriptions'

Scout Groups charge 'subs' to cover costs like equipment and the hire of the meeting place. These can be paid weekly, monthly or each term depending on each Groups preference. Part of the payment you make to your Group is paid to the National Governing body annually to pay for central administration, Insurance and Leader Training.

Your Child's section Leader will be able to tell you about the amount as well as how and when you would be expected to pay. For events like camps, holidays or adventure days, an extra charge is usually made.

‘Gift Aid'

If you pay income tax, your Child's Scout Group can use Gift Aid to claim a tax rebate for every £1.00 you give in subs or donations. Please ask your Section Leader for further information. (Currently this stands at 28p / £1.00 paid)
