Senior Rock Climber
(1) Find his way to a given point in a mountainous area using
1:25 000 O.S. map and compass.
(2) Demonstrate, in a mountainous area, what should be done in emergencies
such as being overtaken by darkness or mist, and the first-aid treatment of
fractures, bruises, concussion and shock.
(3) Know how to coil a rope, how to select a belay, and belay himself securely; and generally understand the principles and safety-first precautions of rock climbing.
(4) Be able to tie a Figure of Eight knot and loop, an Italian Hitch, Bowline and Alpine Butterfly.
(5) Take part in at least 5 rock climbs of a standard not less than 'moderately difficult' such climbs to be led by an experienced climber who will judge and report on his competence.
(6) Demonstrate his ability to abseil down a rock face, not less than 15m.
(7) Hold Senior Mountaineer Badge.
